Social Connection

The Life Practices Challenge

Pre-Discussion Preparation

To prepare for the upcoming discussion on social connection, we have outlined several activities designed to help you reflect on your current social interactions and identify ways to enhance them:

  • Current Social Practices: Spend some time reflecting on your current level of social activity. Consider the frequency, quality, and types of interactions you have with friends, family, colleagues, and others. Are these interactions fulfilling? What aspects would you like to improve?

  • Future Social Practices: Think about the changes you'd like to make to increase or improve your social connections. Are there specific groups or activities you want to engage with? Do you aim to deepen existing relationships or expand your social circle? Set specific, achievable goals that align with your social well-being.

  • Consider Strengths, Values, and Passions: Reflect on how your personal strengths, values, and passions can support and reinforce your social goals. This reflection can provide motivation and personal relevance to your efforts to enhance your social connections.

  • Review the 5 S's: Explore the content pages for each of the 5 S's below to discover ways to apply them in reinforcing the changes you plan to make.

  • Goals and Habits for the Future: Think about the goals and habits that would help you achieve your desired future state. Define what practices you need to develop and maintain to support your social connection over the long term.

Discussion Questions

At the beginning of the discussion, each participant can share insights about their current practices, future practices, strengths/values/passions, the 5 S's, and goals/habits, and request feedback on areas where they want new perspectives.

If time allows, proceed with the following questions to guide your group discussion, focusing on sharing experiences and strategies for achieving connection goals:

  1. What does your current social network look like, and how has it evolved over time?

  2. What goals do you have for enhancing your social connections, and why are these important to you?

  3. What steps or preparations do you think are necessary to achieve your desired level of social interaction?

  4. How do you plan to integrate consistent social activities into your life?

  5. What challenges have you faced in building or maintaining social connections, and how do you plan to overcome them?

Post-Discussion Activities

After your discussion, consider these activities to reinforce your commitment and enhance your understanding of your connection goals:

  • Update Your Plan: Revisit and refine your current practices, future practices, strengths/values/passions, and the 5 S's, alongside your goals and habits. This will ensure your plan remains aligned with your evolving needs and insights.

  • Make One Small Change: Identify and implement one manageable adjustment that moves you closer to your desired future state. Starting with a small change can help build momentum and confidence.

  • Reflect and Adjust: Continuously reflect on your progress and remain open to making necessary adjustments. Use a journal or an app to track your eating habits and their impact on your overall health and wellness.

Through this process, you'll be better prepared to develop practices that more closely align with your future vision, allowing you to enhance your wellbeing.
