Gratitude Moments
Group Mindfulness
Experience
Introduction to Group:
"Hello everyone, and welcome to our session today. We’re going to practice a Gratitude Moments exercise. This practice involves focusing on feelings of gratitude, which has been shown to enhance well-being and foster a positive outlook on life. By consciously reflecting on the things we are grateful for, we can deepen our appreciation of life's many gifts. Let's get started."
Instructions for Leading the Group:
Find a Comfortable Position: "Please find a comfortable seated position. Ensure your back is supported, and you can relax fully. Rest your hands on your knees or in your lap."
Close Your Eyes: "Gently close your eyes or lower your gaze. This will help you focus inward and minimize distractions."
Take a Few Deep Breaths: "Let's begin by taking a few deep breaths. Breathe in deeply, hold for a moment, and exhale slowly. Allow each exhale to release tension from your body and mind."
Reflect on Recent Experiences: "Think back over the past day or week. Reflect on three things that you feel grateful for. These can be big or small—from a kind word someone said to you, to a beautiful sunset you witnessed, or simply having a comfortable place to sleep."
Savor the Feelings of Gratitude: "For each thing you’re grateful for, take a moment to savor the feeling that comes with it. Notice how gratitude feels in your body—perhaps a warmth in your chest or a lightness in your spirit."
Share Your Gratitude (optional): "If comfortable, you may share one thing you’re grateful for with the group. Speaking our gratitude aloud can amplify these positive feelings and encourage others to reflect on their own blessings."
Acknowledge the Benefits: "Recognize how reflecting on gratitude affects your mood and outlook. Even small moments of appreciation can lead to a greater sense of contentment and happiness."
Bring the Practice to a Close: "Let’s take one more deep breath together. As you exhale, gently open your eyes or raise your gaze. Take this sense of gratitude with you as you continue with your day."
"Thank you for participating in this Gratitude Moments exercise. I hope you found it enriching and that it inspires you to regularly recognize and cherish the positive aspects of your life."
